- From profit to six straight losses. Boeing earned $24 billion in 2016–2018. Then it lost money every year from 2019 to 2024: $35.7 billion in all. 2025 was its first profit in seven years: $2.2 billion.
- It wasn't the cycle. The losses began in 2019, a year the US economy grew 2.6% and factories added jobs. When a company falls while its economy grows, look inside the company first.
- Left behind by its peers. From 2016 to 2025, its revenue shrank 4% in US dollars; the median among 181 large manufacturers grew 49%. It outgrew only 12% of them.
- Still smaller than it was. Revenue reached $89.5 billion in 2025, 12% below its 2018 peak of $101 billion.
- Leaders came and went. Boeing filed 34 leadership changes since 2016, more than 83% of large manufacturers (the median is 20). The day after each, its shares moved a median 0.2 points against its sector. The news was rarely news.
