Data as of
October 18, 2026
  1. From profit to four straight losses. CNX Resources earned $1.2 billion in 2017–2018. Then it lost money every year from 2019 to 2022: $1.2 billion in all. 2023 was its first profit in five years: $1.7 billion.
  2. It outgrew its own economy many times over. Revenue rose from $0.8 billion in 2016 to $2.2 billion in 2025: 2.9 times as much. The US economy, counted the same way in money terms, grew about 60%. Whatever drove it, the economy around it does not account for growth of that size.
  3. It wasn't the cycle. The losses began in 2019, a year the US economy grew 2.6%. When a company falls while its economy grows, look inside the company first.
  4. Still smaller than it was. Revenue reached $2.2 billion in 2025, 35% below its 2023 peak of $3.4 billion.
  5. Leaders came and went. CNX Resources filed 26 leadership changes since 2016, more than 86% of large energy and mining companies (the median is 10). The day after each, its shares fell a median 0.5 points against its sector.
