Data as of
October 18, 2026
  1. From profit to eight straight losses. Spotify lost money every year from 2016 to 2023: €3.6 billion in all. 2024 was its first profit in nine years: €1.1 billion.
  2. It outgrew its own economy many times over. Revenue rose from €3 billion in 2016 to €17.2 billion in 2025: 5.8 times as much. Sweden's economy, counted the same way in money terms, grew about 53%. Whatever drove it, the economy around it does not account for growth of that size.
  3. It wasn't the cycle. The losses began in 2016, a year Sweden economy grew 1.9%. When a company falls while its economy grows, look inside the company first.
  4. Ahead of almost everyone like it. From 2016 to 2025, its revenue grew 495% in US dollars; the median among 75 large transportation and utility companies grew 53%. It outgrew 92% of them.
  5. Three decisions on record. Stratrix has verified three of Spotify's big decisions, each with what happened next. The hardest year after: "Spotify Spent Over $800 Million on Podcasts to Escape Music's Margin Trap", with its shares 31 points behind the S&P 500 over the next three years. The best: "Spotify Froze at $9.99 for a Decade Because the Labels Kept ~70% of Every Dollar", 128 points ahead of the S&P 500 over the next three years.
