Data as of
October 18, 2026
  1. From profit to three straight losses. Northern Oil & Gas earned $0.2 billion in 2013–2014. Then it lost money every year from 2015 to 2017: $1.3 billion in all. 2018 was its first profit in four years: $0.1 billion.
  2. It outgrew its own economy many times over. Revenue rose from $0.1 billion in 2016 to $2.5 billion in 2025: 17.1 times as much. The US economy, counted the same way in money terms, grew about 60%. Whatever drove it, the economy around it does not account for growth of that size.
  3. Ahead of almost everyone like it. From 2016 to 2025, its revenue grew 1608% in US dollars; the median among 77 large energy and mining companies grew 149%. It outgrew 97% of them.
  4. Leaders came and went. Northern Oil & Gas filed 25 leadership changes since 2016, more than 84% of large energy and mining companies (the median is 10). The day after each, its shares moved a median 0.2 points against its sector. The news was rarely news.
