- From profit to three straight losses. Airbnb lost money every year from 2019 to 2021: $5.6 billion in all. 2022 was its first profit in four years: $1.9 billion.
- It outgrew its own economy many times over. Revenue rose from $4.8 billion in 2019 to $12.2 billion in 2025: 2.5 times as much. The US economy, counted the same way in money terms, grew about 39%. Whatever drove it, the economy around it does not account for growth of that size.
- It wasn't the cycle. The losses began in 2019, a year the US economy grew 2.6%. When a company falls while its economy grows, look inside the company first.
- A steady bench. Airbnb filed 5 leadership changes since 2016, fewer than 77% of large service companies (the median is 22).
- Six decisions on record. Stratrix has verified six of Airbnb's big decisions, each with what happened next. The hardest year after: "Airbnb Froze Experiences in 2023, Then Relaunched Them in 2025 With a Services Layer", with its shares 66 points behind the S&P 500 over the next three years.
