91% of Salesforce customers use at least one app from AppExchange. So do 90% of the Fortune 500.
Salesforce launched AppExchange at Dreamforce in September 2005, years before Apple's consumer App Store. The pitch to developers: stop building software nobody can find, and build where the customers already are.
By the end of its first fiscal year, Salesforce's AppExchange had 575 apps from 250 vendors. By December 2025, it had 6,233 apps from 3,668 developers.
Salesforce takes a 15% revenue share, but the apps' income is not the point. Every app a customer installs is software that only runs in one place. When others build on you, leaving you gets harder.
