Ask how a price rise was arrived at and the answer is a margin target, an inflation figure or a competitor's list price. Ask what the last rise cost in volume and the room goes quiet — and that number is in the company's own history, an afternoon away. This pack produces both halves of the decision: the share of volume the rise can afford to lose, which is arithmetic on the rise and the contribution margin, and the share your own last rise says it will lose, which is one real rise measured against the trend that preceded it. It returns the gap between them in points of volume, the highest rise your evidence supports, and the first year against the steady state where volume is contracted — because contracts do not prevent the walk, they choose the year it lands in. It stops on two conditions: no past rise has been measured against volume, and no contribution margin exists for the line the rise applies to.

What is the Pricing Power Strategy Pack

The Pricing Power Strategy Pack is a complete decision-support kit for one question: how much volume can this price rise afford to lose, and how much does your own last rise say it will? It is built around one organizing claim: a price rise is decided by two numbers, and almost every company brings only one of them to the meeting. Sixteen files carry it: the foundations, a concept deck, a scored decision wizard, a walk rate model blank and worked, the moves at each position, nine sourced price decisions, a fit worksheet, a roadmap template, a practitioner manual, a field checklist, and an orientation page.

The test that runs through every file

Two numbers: what the rise can afford to lose, and what your own last rise says it will. It is the argument in the deck, it becomes the wizard’s axes, it drives the model’s inputs, and it reappears as lines on the checklist. That is what makes 16 files a product rather than 16 documents.

The model resolves to one number you can negotiate with: The walk rate — the volume a rise can lose before it stops paying. It ships blank and worked, and every input is a named cell rather than a figure buried inside a formula, so the number arrives with its assumptions attached rather than on its own authority.

Why a margin target is not evidence of pricing power

Ask how the rise was arrived at and the answer is a margin target, an inflation figure, or a competitor's list price. Ask what the last rise cost in volume and the room goes quiet. That number is in the company's own history and it takes an afternoon: one real rise, one market, one date, and what volume did afterward measured against what it was doing before.

This pack produces it and what follows from it: the share of volume the rise can afford to lose, the share your history says it will lose, the gap between them in points of volume, and the highest rise your own evidence supports — which is a percentage you can put in a plan rather than a target somebody wanted.

About the packagePDF
  • Foundations. The framework: the walk rate, the realization rate, which year the walk lands in, and the two halts.
  • Concept deck. Twenty-two slides for a leadership session, with nine sourced price decisions and what each does not establish.
  • Decision wizard. Eight scored questions returning the band, the weakest answer, and either of the two halt conditions.
  • Walk rate model. Eleven candidate rises across the columns, the two lines that meet, the headroom in points of volume, and the first year against the steady state.
  • Strategies and tactics. The moves at each of the four positions, what to do when the price is not yours to set, and four ways to widen the walk rate rather than the price.
  • Case studies. Nine sourced price decisions — three that found a line after years of successful rises, two that cut deliberately, and one that could not raise its price for 73 years.
  • Fit worksheet. The single page of record: the rise, the margin, the measured elasticity, the headroom, the realization rate and who watches volume afterwards.
  • Roadmap template. Five phases with gates and owners, the assumptions register, a trigger and a monthly reporting line.
  • Practitioner manual. Measuring a past rise, building the contribution margin, holding the realization rate, the board paper, six failure modes and their indicators.
  • Field checklist. The one-pager that survives outside the binder.
  • About the package. What each file does and the order in which to run them.

Who the Pricing Power Strategy Pack is for

A chief executive about to sign off on a rise arrived at from a margin target; a chief financial officer who suspects no one has measured what the last one cost; a commercial or pricing leader who wants the argument to be about evidence rather than about targets; a sales leader tired of being handed a percentage and asked to hold it; a board member reading a pricing paper with one number in it; and the adviser who would otherwise start from a blank page. It is worth buying when a real decision is in front of you. It is not worth buying to read.

An honest note on fit

This is a kit for running a decision, not a research report and not a course. Worked examples use an explicitly fictional company with numbers tuned to teach rather than to flatter. In the worked case an 8% rise can afford to lose 16.0% of volume, the company's own last rise says it will lose 14.4%, and it therefore clears by 1.6 points — inside what a single measurement can be wrong by, which is the finding rather than a caveat.

Two limits are stated on the page rather than worked around. The pack does not tell you whether you have pricing power, and it cannot see what a rise does to the customers who stay — frequency, mix, and what they quietly stop buying alongside. Those are real and specific to you. What the pack supplies is the arithmetic they have to be argued against, which at present is usually a margin target.

Questions about the Pricing Power Strategy Pack

What number does the model produce?
Four. The share of volume the rise can afford to lose; the share your own last rise says it will lose; the gap between them in points of volume; and the highest rise your evidence supports. The Model tab sweeps candidate rises rather than periods, so the answer is a column you can point at.
We have never measured a past price rise. Is this still useful?
It is the first thing the pack makes you do, and the model halts until it exists — deliberately. One real rise, one market, one date, and what volume did afterward against the pre-rise trend. It is an afternoon in data you already have, and it is the only evidence anybody has about what your customers actually do.
Does this tell me whether I have pricing power?
No. It measures what yours has been worth, once, in one direction, at one price. Three of the nine sourced cases had raised successfully for years and then found a line that no elasticity measured beforehand would have shown — which is why the model reports a headroom rather than a verdict.
Are the case studies real companies?
Yes. Nine sourced price decisions: Chanel, Chipotle, BMW, Amazon, Chick-fil-A, Broadcom, BYD, IKEA, and Coca-Cola. Each is dated, read through what moved and what happened to volume, and each states what its evidence does not establish. The worked model, wizard, and worksheet use an explicitly fictional company, labeled as such on every file.
What if our field just discounts the rise away?
Then the number in the model should be the net one, and the pack makes you produce it: compare the last two announced rises with the change in average selling price that actually landed. Discounting compounds with the walk rate rather than offsetting it — the contribution gained falls while the volume lost stays exactly where it was.
Is this a subscription?
No. One payment, one download, sixteen files, yours to keep and to use inside your organization under the license included in the pack.
What is the Pricing Power Strategy Pack?
The Pricing Power Strategy Pack is a decision-support kit for one question: How much volume can this price rise afford to lose, and how much will it? It contains 16 files — foundations, concept deck, decision wizard, walk rate model, strategies and tactics, case studies, fit worksheet, roadmap template, practitioner manual, field checklist, about the package — built around a single organizing test: two numbers: what the rise can afford to lose, and what your own last rise says it will. It is what a leadership team uses to run the decision and leave a record of what they assumed, rather than a report about the topic.
Who is the Pricing Power Strategy Pack for?
Anyone who has to make this call and answer for it: an operator or owner facing the decision, the executive team running it, the board or investor testing the reasoning, or an adviser who would otherwise build the framework from a blank page. It is worth buying when a real decision is in front of you. It is not worth buying to read.
